More than Connectivity for the State of Maine EMS

NEWCOM’s State of Maine EMS Connectivity Project is saving agencies time and money

The equipment installed within the State of Maine’s emergency medical service agencies does more than only improve connectivity. While that goal is of utmost importance, there are many factors in which this full-circle solution saves agencies time and money.

The result of high-speed Internet using a rugged vehicle router with Wi-Fi, a roof-mounted antenna, FirstNet Service by AT&T, and a state-of-the-art emergency vehicle alerting system allows the EMS agencies to experience immediate cost savings by consolidating existing connected devices. Leveraging the high-speed internet and Wi-Fi has led to improved operational efficiencies, as they can now see where their EMS vehicles are located when they arrive on the scene, and how long they were at a medical center are among the few informational details this equipment collects.

Statewide Connectivity at a Glance

NEWCOM’s State of Maine EMS Connectivity Project is on course for its completion date of June 30th, 2024. As of March 21st, 2024, NEWCOM has installed 192 vehicles across 60 Maine EMS agencies. This leaves 249 agencies to go.

The Forward Thinking Systems GPS is the vehicle location and fleet management system that will eventually be integrated into dispatch to aid in improved assets utilization and response times statewide.

The HAAS Alert SafetyCloud application shows vehicle location and status. Orange means they are on scene or responding. This system alerts civilian traffic when there is an emergency vehicle nearby responding to a call.

Are you a Maine EMS agency?

If you have existing technology but are interested in upgrading your equipment or expanding the capacity of your equipment under this opportunity, don’t hesitate to complete the interest form through Maine EMS.

Maine EMS will also be hosting an informational webinar with NEWCOM about the project on April 3rd, 2024 at 3 PM EST.

NEWCOM’s contract with the state allows variation for each unit based on what is needed to reach the desired level of connectivity. Therefore, we can perform upgrades to existing equipment if desired. If you have other emergency vehicles that you wish to outfit with this technology (e.g., fire apparatus, law enforcement vehicles, snowplows, etc.), there is a Master Service Agreement with the State of Maine that is accessible to local governments.
