Phase II for Massachusetts State Police Digital Alerting Initiative

PEMBROKE, Massachusetts, March 10, 2026 NEWCOM reports Phase II of the Massachusetts State Police statewide digital alerting initiative. This initiative is a continued effort to reduce on-the-shoulder crashes. To date, a reporting number of 478 patrol vehicles have been equipped with HAAS Alert Safety Cloud® furnished and integrated by NEWCOM’s services.

In this initiative, the Commonwealth further strengthens its commitment to reducing roadside collisions and enhancing both driver and Trooper safety. The anticipated success of Phase II of installations, funded by National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHSTA), results from the attainment of Phase I, which equipped 233 vehicles in 2025.

In a collaborative effort to deliver Massachusetts State Police real-time alerts to drivers with emergency vehicles, HAAS Alert and NEWCOM are making great progress.

The early results have been good. The Troopers who did not have it in their vehicle and then had it installed, they are telling us that they are seeing a noticeable difference in people getting out of their way when they respond to a call,” said Lieutenant Sean Reardon, Unit Commander, Traffic Programs Section, Massachusetts State Police. “More importantly, when they are stationary, the vehicles are moving over.”

Safety Cloud delivers real-time alerts to drivers when emergency vehicles are actively responding or stopped on the roadway. These preemptive notifications are sent to navigation apps, like Waze and Apples Maps, as well as infotainment systems in modern vehicles. This provides motorists with up to 30 seconds of advanced warning in addition to traditional lights and sirens, boosting compliance with Move Over laws.

According to HAAS Alert reporting, January 2 through December 31, 2025, Safety Cloud issued over 4.3 million alerts in Massachusetts, giving drivers the opportunity to slow down and move over.1

In NEWCOM’s ongoing integration expertise efforts, Massachusetts State Police continues to lead the way in reducing the risks of roadside emergencies by adopting connected-vehicle technology. As a result, Massachusetts drivers can see more R2V (Responder-to-Vehicle) notifications throughout the Commonwealth, promoting safer roads for everyone.

We’re pleased with the Phase I outcome of this project and the partnership we have with HAAS Alert to provide digital alerting systems to Massachusetts State Police, said Dov Koplovsky, Owner/CEO of NEWCOM. He continues, “Phase II is a continuation in expanding the project to more emergency vehicles used for roadway safety in the Commonwealth.”
