UVC Study on Aircrafts
When an aircraft is serviced by SteriFlight, the average exposure time is 10 seconds at a distance of 3 feet or less. The Honeywell testing used significantly more power than SteriFlight treatment and was performed continuously for months. As an example, 21 days of exposure would equate to SteriFlight servicing an aircraft 181,440 times (or once per day for 497 years).
Honeywell performed a study of the effect of UVC exposure on non-metallic materials. The testing was conducted in a chamber with twelve 55-wat UVC lamps and a reflective interior. “The high UVC output of the lamps, the reflectivity of the interior of the chamber, and the geometry of the chamber result in a measured UVC intensity at the floor of the chamber that is 27 times the intensity from a single coil irradiation lamp at an 18 inch distance.
